![]() ![]() At 67 I have resolved that I will practice until I am incapable of practicing due to a physical impairment or some type of mental problem where I no longer recognize what a banjo is. I will diligently keep pressing forward, experimenting with both, with ring only or pinky only. There are moments though, with both methods where it seems to work. ![]() When I plant only the ring finger it still pulls inward with the middle when I increase my speed. ![]() With only my ring finger planted, unless my ring finger is extended straight out on the head it totally flops and follows the ring finger.often muting the first string. Thanks for any suggestions.even if it is just to tell me to keep plowing on. Is there an exercise that anyone knows of that might help? Will this ever just stop with more persistence? I am bound and determined to work through this but often when I find it really bothersome I keep thinking I should post this problem on the hangout and see if it is more common than I think it is and if there are remedies for it. I have licked the ring finger tip and wiped it so that it is slightly moist and this provides a bit of tackiness that allows the ring finger to stay anchored but it dries pretty quick and does not last long enough to play more than a minute at best. I have tried straightening the anchor finger so that nail doesn't tough but that prevents me from striking the first string with any aning that it keeps my middle finger too far from the first string. I file my ring and little fingernails back as much as I can but if there is any contact with the nail on the head it just seems impossible to prevent the middle finger from moving in toward the strings. My ring finger wants to pull inward when the middle finger picks. I anchor both my ring and little finger when picking. But I wanted to ask about one problem I don't seem to be able to make much progress on and it could be a stigma in the way my fingers are set up with responsive nerves. I am trying to find more time for practice and trying to put more conscious quality into that time. ![]()
